2nd Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament Opened Today

January 24, 2020: The 2^nd Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament commenced today at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club as WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) formally inaugurated the event.

More than 300 Golfers of affiliated golf clubs with Pakistan Golf Federation across the country are participating in the Tournament. The matches will be contested in the categories of amateurs, senior amateurs, ladies, veterans and invitational.

Speaking on the occasion, WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) said that sports is considered to be the fundamental element for development of any country in the world. Besides developing water and hydropower sectors, WAPDA has also been tremendously contributing towards promotion of sports in Pakistan for more than five decades as its corporate social responsibility. Being a major contributor for development of sports, WAPDA has been strengthening its representation on golf front of Pakistan. This tournament is a step in this regard, he added. The Chairman congratulated his team for successfully organizing the tournament.

Dilating upon the performance of WAPDA sportspersons in national and international levels, the Chairman said that WAPDA won 148 medals in the National Games Peshawar. Most importantly, WAPDA sportspersons alone won 19 gold medals for Pakistan in the South Asian Games, held in Nepal, he further said.
