Electricity generation from Dasu Hydropower Project

Electricity generation from Dasu Hydropower Project is scheduled to commence in 2026. With installed capacity of 4320 MW, Dasu Project is to be completed in two Stages of 2160 MW each. Construction work on 13 sites of the Stage-I is progressing satisfactorily. The Stage-I will provide 12 billion units, while the Stage-II will contribute 9 billion units clean, green and low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid every year.

December 21, 2023: Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) interacted with the employees at WAPDA House, Lahore today. Sharing the details about measures taken by the Authority for welfare of the employees, the Chairman informed them of the policy for allotment of accommodation at WAPDA colonies across the country, improvement in WAPDA accommodation and community transport service, merit-based regularization policy, increase in marriage grant, betterment in health care system and updates about Housing Scheme for WAPDA employees.

Chairman WAPDA visits Diamer Basha Dam, reviews river diversion system on test-run River Indus partially diverted; diversion system functioning satisfactorily; River Indus to be diverted completely by next week: Chairman briefed

December 10, 2023: Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) visited Diamer Basha Dam Project today to review the river diversion system, which is operational since last week after partial diversion of River Indus at Diamer Basha Dam Project site.

World Bank Vice President visits Tarbela 5th Extension, Dasu Hydropower Project 'Tarbela 5th Extension to Start Electricity Generation in 2025, Dasu in 2026'

December 2, 2023: The World Bank Vice President Martin Raiser along with a 4-member delegation, visited Tarbela 5th Extension and Dasu Hydropower Project today. Chairman WAPDA Eng Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) and World Bank Executive Director Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah also accompanied him. World Bank is providing financial support for construction of these projects.

Completion of 8-underconstruction WAPDA Projects: Carry over water capacity to increase to 45 days; hydel generation to be doubled PAF Air War College delegation briefed about water, hydel power scenario in Pakistan

November 27, 2023: With completion of eight under-construction water and hydropower projects of WAPDA, the carry over water capacity in the country will increase from 30 days to 45 days with an addition of 9.7 MAF water storage, while hydel power generation of WAPDA will also be doubled to more than 18,000 MW with an increase of 9,043 MW.1
