WAPDA Cadet College Tarbela wins All Pakistan English Declamation Contest

November 27, 2023: Cadet Abdullah Nisar of WAPDA Cadet College Tarbela, displaying exceptional oratory skills, secured first position in English category of All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest organised by Pakistan Scouts Cadet College Batrasi the other day. As many as 18 teams hailing from renowned boarding colleges of Pakistan including Military Colleges, PAF Colleges, all Cadet Colleges of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and AJ&K and Government College (GC) University Lahore participated in the contest.

Chairman WAPDA visits Mohmand Dam Project; Directs contractor for diverting River Swat during current low flow season

November 8, 2023: Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) today visited Mohmand Dam Project, being constructed across River Swat in Mohmand District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. He reviewed construction activities on different sites of the project - the spillway and the river diversion tunnels in particular. At present, construction works relating to excavation, stabilisation and concreting are being carried out simultaneously on these sites.

WAPDA awards Consultancy Services Contract for Naulong Dam Project

November 2, 2023: WAPDA signed an agreement amounting to Rs. 705 million for consultancy services of Naulong Dam Project with a joint venture comprised of two firms – Dolsar of Turkey and Mott Mcdonald of Pakistan. The consultancy contract relates to review and update the detailed design, prepare procurement documents, and update the safeguard documents of the project. As per the contract, these tasks will be completed in 28 months. The Asian Development Bank is providing financial assistance for consultancy services of Naulong Dam Project.

Chairman WAPDA visits Warsak Dam 2nd Rehabilitation of Warsak HPS likely to be completed in early 2026 Warsak to regain original capacity of 243 MW with 50 MW addition

November 2, 2023: Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd) visited Warsak Dam located on River Kabul, 30 Km from Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Warsak Dam is Pakistan’s first ever multipurpose mega project, completed in 1960. At present, WAPDA is executing 2nd Rehabilitation Project of Warsak Hydel Power Station to regain its original power generation capacity of 243 MW from the existing 193 MW by rehabilitating the civil structures and modernising the electro-mechanical equipment.

October 19, 2023: Fiscal year 2023-24 is turning out to be a good year for hydel electricity generation in Pakistan, as WAPDA provided 15.002 billion units of hydel electricity to the National Grid during first quarter of the current fiscal (July-September) - an increase of 1.788 billion units in WAPDA hydel power generation when compared with the corresponding period last year. This increased hydel generation helped national exchequer save Rs. 50 billion, that had to spend in generating the same quantum of electricity through expensive imported residual furnace oil (RFO).
