November 12, 2021: As many as 20 million acres of virgin land can be brought under irrigated agriculture in Pakistan if water is made available by constructing dams. With this in view, Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is executing a number of mega projects scheduled to be completed by 2029 in a phased manner. The water storage will increase from 13 million acre feet (MAF) to 24 MAF with an addition of 11.7 MAF that will help irrigate 1.6 million acres of land in the country.

November 10, 2021: Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is executing the biggest-ever portfolio of development projects in Pakistan including Diamer Basha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project and Mohmand Dam worth US $ 26 billion after a span of almost five decades by adopting an innovative financing strategy on the back of a robust capital structure and strong balance sheet footing.

US Consul General, WAPDA Chairman discuss water, hydropower projects

Lahore - November 9, 2021: The US Consul General in Lahore William K. Makaneole accompanied by the USAID Director, Office of Energy Jenna Diallo called on WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (Retd) at WAPDA House today. The matters of mutual interest relating to water and hydropower projects were discussed during the meeting.

Water, food, energy security: WAPDA to add 11.7MAF water, 9000 MW power by 2029: Chairman

October 15, 2021: Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is committed to the water, food and energy security of the country. At present, it has been constructing as many as 10 projects in water and hydropower sectors under ‘Decade of Dams’, to be completed in a phased manner from 2023 to 2029.
