Preservation of Pre-Historic Rock Carvings in Diamer Basha Dam Project Area: WAPDA gears up to implement Cultural Heritage Management Plan

June 15, 2020: Besides initiating construction work on the Main Dam of Diamer Basha Dam Project, Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is also gearing up for implementation of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan in the Project area with a view to fulfilling its national and international obligations for construction of water and hydropower projects. The Plan aims at preservation of pre-historic rock carvings and inscriptions to be submerged in water reservoir of Diamer Basha Dam, setting up a museum and promotion of cultural tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly in Chilas and its suburban areas.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES AGREEMENT SIGNED FOR MURUNJ DAM PROJECT

May 29, 2020: In a major development for harnessing scarce water resources in Southern Punjab, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) awarded the consultancy contract worth Rs. 156.226 million to a joint venture headed by NESPAK for feasibility study, detailed engineering design, preparation of tender documents and PC-I of Murunj Dam Project.

Contribution to National Grid Neelum Jhelum crosses 8 billion units mark, yields Rs. 80 billion revenue

May 18, 2020: State-of-the-art 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project achieved yet another milestone, as its contribution to the National Grid crossed 8 billion mark. The project, satisfactorily meeting the design capacity energy production, achieved this land mark despite the fact that the shelling by India from across the Line of Control during July and October 2019 interrupted the working at the project, which forced evacuation of the Chinese workers from the project site and continue to be afflicted by Covid-19 pandemic. In terms of revenue, Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project has yielded more than Rs. 80 billion of hydel electricity into the National Grid with efficient operation of the project by Neelum Jhelum and WAPDA engineers and staff under tiring conditions.
