WAPDA’s contribution for promotion of sports: 5th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament commences from November 14

November 13, 2023: The 5th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament will commence on Tuesday, November 14 2023 under the aegis of Pakistan WAPDA Sports Board (WSB). The 5-day tournament is being played at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Lahore at the national level.

WAPDA Sports Board organizes ceremony for Arshad Nadeem Chairman WAPDA presents cash reward for his historic performance

August 31, 2023: WAPDA Sports Board arranged a ceremony at WAPDA House today in honour of its athlete Arshad Nadeem for his historic performance in the World Athletics Championship 2023. Chairman WAPDA Engr Lt Gen Sajjad Ghani (Retd), who is also Patron-in-Chief of WAPDA Sports Board, presented cash reward amounting to Rs. 1.7 million to Arshad Nadeem. General Manager (Admin) and General Manager (Sports) were also present on the occasion.

 Congratulating Arshad Nadeem on winning silver medal for Pakistan in the World Athletics Championship, the Chairman said that the whole nation is proud of him for his brilliant performance in the event. He expressed the hope that Arshad Nadeem would also excel in the upcoming international and global events, the Paris Olympics 2024 in particular. The Chairman assured Arshad Nadeem that WAPDA Sports Board would fully support him for providing training and allied facilities for the purpose.

Speaking on the occasion, Arshad Nadeem thanked WAPDA Sports Board for patronizing him and other players, who have been bringing laurels to Pakistan in international sports.

The Chairman also gave away cash prize worth Rs. 5 Lacs to Muhammad Yasir, WAPDA Sports Board athlete, for winning bronze medal for the country in Javelin Throw in 25th Asian Athletics Championship held at Bangkok last month.

It is worth mentioning that WAPDA has been playing a phenomenal role for promotion of sports in Pakistan for more than six decades. WAPDA is the largest employer of sportspersons in Pakistan, as more than 2200 players and sports officials are associated with various units of WAPDA Sports Board across the country, WAPDA has 65 teams – 36 men and 29 women – of different games. At present, WAPDA is winner in 34 disciplines (Men-17, Women-17), and runners-up in 22 games (Men-13, Women-9) in National Championships.

WAPDA crowned 10th National Archery Champion 2023; Win trophy with 3 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze medals

March 20, 2023: WAPDA reigned supreme in archery too, as it crowned National Archery Champion 2023. WAPDA won 10th DHA National Archery Championship with three gold, two bronze and one silver medals, while Pakistan Army finished as the runners-up with two gold, three silver and one bronze medals in the event.

3 More Titles for WAPDA in National Badminton Championship; WAPDA players win Men’s Single, Women’s Single, Women’s Double Titles

March 12, 2023: WAPDA’s winning spree continued in National Badminton Championship as its players won three more titles - Men’s Single, Women’s Single and Women’s Double - in the event. WAPDA had already won both Men’s and Women’s titles in the Championship five days ago.

Hafiz Irfan Saeed Bhatti of WAPDA outclassed Muqeet Tahir of WAPDA by 2-0 in the final for Men’s Single title. Mahoor Shahzad of WAPDA defeated Ghazala Javed of WAPDA by 2-1 in the final for Women’s Single title. While, Mahoor Shahzad and Ghazala Javed of WAPDA beat their own team mates Farzana and Saba by 2-0 in the final for Women’s Double title.

The Championship was organized by National Badminton Federation in collaboration with WAPDA Sports Board at WAPDA Sports Complex, Lahore. As many as 11 teams are participating in the Championship including Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, AJK, Islamabad, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railways, WAPDA, Higher Education Commission and Police.

WAPDA Sports Board President Imdad Ullah Memon was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony, who distributed trophies and medals among the winning teams and the players.
