WAPDA Engineering Academy “WEA” is located near Steam Power Station, Faisalabad on Sheikhupura Road. The academy spreads over an area of 32.5 acres.

It was established in 1962 as Tech. Training Institute (Electrical) at Lahore. Shifted to Faisalabad in 1967 & in present WAPDA building in 1971.

Supported by GTZ for Modernization & Expansion from 1983 to 2001. Their substantial support towards acquisition of hardware and equipment for class rooms, laboratories & workshops helped the Institute to acquire the status of WAPDA Engineering Academy in 1988.

Water Wing Training Institute shifted from Tarbela to this Academy in 1989 to consolidate the entire technical training activities of WAPDA at one place.

EXPANSION/ MODERNIZATION

In March 1983, an agreement was signed between the Governments of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Federal Republic of Germany for the Expansion and Modernization of Engineering Academy Faisalabad. The executing agencies for the project were decided to be the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority and GTZ (The German Agency for Technical Co-operation).

Under this agreement, the GTZ has arranged the most sophisticated equipment for the infrastructural improvement of the Academy as a whole. New laboratories and workshops were set-up and equipped meticulously. The latest electrical machinery and appliances to be used in lab/line practicals were provided along with relevant T&P. Training software, documentation and audio-visual teaching aids were provided abundantly. These features multiplied the training gamut of the Academy, which now bears the distinction of meeting with all the technical training requirements of the Generation, Civil, Transmission and Distribution fields. The highly advanced and computerized power plant and grid station Training Simulators and Grid Network Analogue Simulator were installed. This unique training Institute in Water and Power Engineering was absolutely a new mile-stone in Pakistan and WAPDA was proud of having it.

The Academy was supported by CEC (Commission of the European Communities) for establishment of a course system for advanced Vocational Trainings during 1991-93. It introduced and conducted a range of specific technical courses to WAPDA as well as IPP’s, Provincial governments, Power Industries, Public & Private sector such as Textile, Fertilizer, Sugar, Electro-Mechanical, Construction, Power Generation & Process Industries.

Internship Programmes for final year University students are also part of Academic Program. 

CPD WORKSHOP/SEMINAR

WAPDA Engineering Academy is registered as professional engineering body vide Registration No. PEB-F-WAPDA F-0085 since 2012. As per Pakistan Engineering council policy and guidelines “All registered PEBs must conduct at least four (4) CPD activities per year’’. In this regard WEA Faisalabad is conducting CPD workshops / Seminars regularly throughout the year. Paramount objective of organizing continuing professional development workshop/Training is to share the technical and management knowledge with the engineers.
