French Ambassador, WAPDA Chairman discuss financing for WAPDA projects

            Lahore – January 9, 2017: French Ambassador to Pakistan, Mrs. Martine Dorance today called on WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (R) at WAPDA House and discussed with him the matters relating to mutual cooperation for development of water and hydropower projects being implemented by WAPDA.

            Speaking on the occasion, WAPDA Chairman thanked the French Government for financial support of the French Development Agency – AFD – to implement various WAPDA projects. Underlining the significance of foreign investment for development of water and hydropower resources, he said that the projects in both sectors offer excellent investment opportunities. He expressed the hope that the cooperation between the AFD and WAPDA will further strengthen for upcoming WAPDA projects.

            French Ambassador Mrs. Martine Dorance said that France has long standing relationship of mutual cooperation with WAPDA. In addition to ongoing WAPDA projects, the possibility of financial support by the AFD for construction of Mohmand Dam and Harpo Hydropower Project were also discussed in detail during the meeting. 

            It is pertinent to mention that France is providing financial support for
the refurbishment, rehabilitation and capacity enhancement of various hydropower projects in Pakistan including Mangla Refurbishment Project, Warsak Hydroelectric Power Station 2nd Rehabilitation Project, Rehabilitation of Dargai Hydroelectric Power Station, Capacity Enchancement of Chitral Hydel Power Station, Hydropower Training Institute, Mangla, and feasibility studies and detailed engineering design of Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project and Harpo Hydropower Project. 

WAPDA win 3rd National Women Weightlifting Championship

Lahore – January 5, 2017: While overpowering its competitors, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) won the 3rd National Championship held here at Railway Stadium. WAPDA secured 91 points in the championship with five gold, one silver and one bronze medals. Pakistan Railways stood second in the championship with 76 points, while Pakistan Army remained at 3rd position by obtaining 50 points.

WAPDA Delivers 33658 Million Units of Hydel Electricity to National Grid in 2016

Lahore – December 31, 2016: The hydel power stations owned and operated by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) delivered 33658 million units of low-cost environment friendly hydel electricity to the National Grid in 2016, as compared to 31840 million units generated during the year 2015. This generation registered an increase of 1818 million units (5.7 %) when the country is in dire need of electricity.

WAPDA to Enhance Mangla Power Station Generation Capacity to 1310 MW

 December 29, 2016: The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is implementing Mangla Refurbishment Project with an approved PC I cost of Rs.52.224 billion. The project, on its completion, will enhance generation capacity of the existing Mangla Hydel Power Station from 1000 megawatt (MW) to 1310 MW, thus registering an increase of 310 MW.
